Years ago my heart was set to live, oh
And I've been trying hard against unblievable odds
Gets so hard at times like now to hold on
Guns they wait to be stuck by
That my side is gone
And there ain't noone going to turn me around
There ain't no one going to turn me around
People around you tell you that they know
The places they've been to and it's easy to go
They'll zip you up and dress you down and stand you in a room
You know you don't have to
You can just say no
And they're ain't no one going to turn me around
There ain't no one going to turn me around
There ain't no one going to turn me around
There ain't no one going to turn me around
I've been built up and trusted
Broke down and busted
They'll get theirs and we'll get ours
If you can just hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Years ago my heart was set to live, oh
And I've been trying hard against, against strong odds
Gets so hard at times like now to hold on
Gonna fall if I dont fight
That my side is gone
And there ain't no one going to turn me around
There ain't no one going to turn me around
Ain't noone going to turn me around
There ain't noone going to turn me around

Give me some more wine my friend 'cause I can't be sober today
Cos I need some wine to drown my sorrow this world is all in vain
Come and sit by my side listen to the tale I have
We can be merry, we can be crazy, not face reality
Days have long passed me by faces seem haunting to me
People I loved, people I lost now seem to let me be
Where is my home that I seek it used to be there in your heart
Now it's gone, no longer a bloom and I am left without
There is no pity here only jokes remain
Oh sweet numbness won't you come and keep me safe and warm
And I know I lost it all
Still you place your faith in me
After all I have is gone
Still you stand in victory
So go home my brave little man go find your feet once again
Will you be strong, will you be kind, do you deserve it all
And I know I lost it all
Still you place your faith in me
After all I have is gone
Still you stand in victory

Pour l'amiti
L'amiti entre hommes et femmes
Impensable
Parce que, il y a toujours
Sous jacent
Le desir animal
This is the story of
Melody Nelson
Apart from me no one
Ever took her in his arms
Under her thumb
Eyes in the sun
Oh my Melody mine
Oh my Melody mine
She has nothing but love
Poor
Melody Nelson
Her life was more said than done
But her days were numbered
Nil Count fourteen falls
Fifteen on calls
A baby tiger was
Melody Nelson
Forever purring in the sun
Just as dangerous as a child
With a gun, shooting me down
Oh my Melody mine
Melody Nelson
Still playing hurting games for fun
As adorable as dumb
Deaf to the sound
To what's going down
Down
Down

Johnny Butt was a man with a real strong will to survive
He'd just keep pushin' on even though he was barely alive
So shoot it up, shoot it up, it just don't matter
Johnny says he wants to go do it
Says, he wants to kill a cop
We've got a brand-new dance, it's called we've got to overcome
We've got a brand-new dance, it's called we've got to overcome
So Johnny just keep pushin' 'cause the streets are yours
There'll come a day when all that shit won't matter
So, shoot it up, shoot it up, just don't matter
When you're resisting anyway
We've got a brand-new dance, it's called we've got to overcome
We've got a brand-new dance, it's called we've got to overcome
So Johnny kept on pushin' the streets are yours
And there'll come a day when all the that shit won't matter
So, shoot it up, shoot it up, it just don't matter
Resisting anyway
We've got a brand-new dance, it's called we've got to overcome
We've got a brand-new dance, it's called we've got to overcome

Bar Keep! Bar Keep! Pour me a pint.
For we must keep our courage, English coming tonight.
One hundred years ago in the Celtic wood
Bar Keep! Bar Keep! Pull us all a round.
Sean Kellie lead the clans, we fight on hallowed ground
From the Cloth of Kings, Sean Kellie was torn
Stones for stones and bones of Blackthorn
What does it mean, to fight to be free?
I'll put him down. I'll put him down clean.
Half pint of Bushmills each day before noon
The lads did tremble and the lassies did swoon
Stout in the barrel and whisky in the Wellie
Let's all drink and sing the Ballad of Sean Kellie

I want a glimpse into your world, these things only end up getting worse
I've been losing sleep from daydreaming, but it's only time 'till it catches up with me
These isles aren't listening, their minds are sickening
Pretty sure we're heading towards something
Pretty sure we're heading towards nothing.
This is a ballad for the end of the world, this is a ballad for the end of the world
We can only think, only think, "this is it, this is it"
For anyone who's listening
Whenever this happens, your mind turns to static
Fuck all the fascists, keep all the blood in your veins
Nothing can ever stay the same, even the moon goes through phases
The people of this planet are heartless, but baby we're just getting started
This is a ballad for the end of the world, this is a ballad for the end of the world
We can only think, only think, "this is it, this is it"
To anyone who feels a thing

We invariably left the prairies, in my heart
Since well it never moved an inch
Does the love grow, home with the wild rose?
Now, somethings moving out here
We invariably left the prairies
And my heart, since they never moved an inch
And then you found me, alone on a Friday
Now, somethings moving out here
Swap Garneau for Dundas
My parents for your dad
The Rockies for the Great Lakes
And my heart pounds as you say
Swap Garneau for Dundas
My parents for your dad
The Rockies for the Great Lakes
And my heart pounds as you say
And all these things will pass
It's the good ones that will last
And right here what we've had
Is a good thing, and it will last
And all these things will pass
It's the good ones that will last
And right here what we've had
Is a good thing, it will last

Ira Hayes
Ira Hayes
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war
Gather round me people there's a story I would tell
About a brave young Indian you should remember well
From the land of the Pima Indian, a proud and noble band
Who farmed the Phoenix valley in Arizona land
Down the ditches of thousand years
The water grew Ira's peoples' crops
'Till the white man stole the water rights
And the sparklin' water stopped
Now Ira's folks were hungry
And their land grew crops of weeds
When war came, Ira volunteered
And forgot the white man's greed
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war
There they battled up Iwo Jima's hill
Two hundred and fifty men
But only twenty-seven lived
To walk back down again
And when the fight was over
And Old Glory raised
Among the men who held it high
Was the Indian, Ira Hayes
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war
Ira,he is returned a hero
Celebrated through the land
He was wined and speeched and honored
Everybody shook his hand
But he was just a Pima Indian
No water, no home, no chance
At home nobody cared what Ira'd done
And when did the Indians dance
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war
Then Ira started drinkin' hard
Jail was often his home
They'd let him raise the flag and lower it
Like you'd throw a dog a bone
He died drunk early one mornin'
Alone in the land he fought to save
Two inches of water in a lonely ditch
Was a grave for Ira Hayes
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war
Yeah, call him drunken Ira Hayes
But his land is just as dry
And his ghost is lying thirsty
In the ditch where Ira died

Say a prayer for the cowgirl her horse ran away
She'll walk 'til she finds him, her darlin', her stray
But the river's in flood and the roads are awash
And the bridges break up in the panic of loss
And there's nothin' to follow nowhere to go
He's gone like the summer, gone like the snow
And the crickets are breaking her heart with their song
As the day caves in and the night is all wrong
Did she dream? Was he who went galloping past?
And bent down the fern broke open the grass
And printed the mud with the well-hammered shoe
That she nailed to his speed in the dreams of her youth
And although he goes grazing a minute away
She tracks him all night, she tracks him all day
And she's blind to his presence except to compare
Her injury here with his punishment there
Then at home on a branch on a high stream
A songbird sings out so suddenly
And the sun is warm and the soft winds ride
On a willow tree by the riverside
Ah, the world is sweet and world is wide
He's there where the light and the darkness divide
And the steam's comin' off him he's huge and he's shy
And he steps on the moon when he paws at the sky
And he comes to her hand but he's nor really tame
He longs to be lost, she longs for the same
And he'll bolt and he'll plunge thru' the first open pass
To roll and to feed in the sweet mountain grass
Or he'll make a break for the high plateau
Where there's nothing above and nothing below
It's time for their burden the whip and the spur
Will she ride with him or will he ride with her?
So she binds herself to her galloping steed
And he binds himself to the woman in need
And there is no space just left and right
And there is no time but there is day and night
Then she leans on his neck and whispers low
Whither thou goest I will go
And they turn as one and they head for the plain
No need for the whip, oh, no need for the rain
Now the clasp of this union who fastens it tight
Who snaps it asunder the very next night
Some say it's him, some say it's her
Some say love's like smoke beyond all repair
So my darlin', my darlin' just let go by
That old silhouette on the great western sky
And I'll pick out a tune and they'll move right along
And they're gone like smoke and they're gone like this song
Say a prayer for the cowgirl

Come sit by me all you
Fine lords and laddies
And I'll tell you the tale
Of the young John Henry
He met a fair maiden
One bright May morning
As he went a-hunting
In Midsomer County
And pale was the skin
Of the Midsomer maiden
Blue were he eyes
As blue as the sea
And on her fair head
Lay a garland of flowers
Sweet were the roses
Of Midsomer County
But young men don't stray
This maiden will lead you away
Come to go, rest now
Said the Midsomer maiden
You're weary from traveling
That I can see
Let us go home now
Over yonder the Greenwood
Come taste the fruits
Of Midsomer County
She led him on through
The Midsomer Greenwood
Til they came to a hut
By a juniper tree
She said, Sir, won't you
Come sit by my fire
You'll eat like the king
Of Midsomer County
But young men don't stray
This maiden will lead you away
She brought him fine ale
And she brought him supper
Fresh eggs and live eels
For young John Henry
She said, Come, eat your fill
And whe you are sated
You'll stay with me here
In Midsomer County
And, Alas, I cannot stay
Said young John Henry
I'm bound to another
Soon married I'll be
And I thank ye for supper
My kind and fair maiden
Now I must leave here
Midsomer County
But young men don't stray
This maiden will lead you away
Well, up went the cry
Of the Midsomer maiden
For shame and for shame
For you have tricked me
You're bound to me now
I am your lover
I swear you'll not leave here
Midsomer County
Cold was the blade
Of the Midsomer maiden
Soft was the neck
Of young John Henry
And warm was the blood
That flowed from his body
Red as the roses
Of Midsomer County
But young men don't stray
This maiden will lead you away
But deep in the Greenwood
Of Midsomer County
Lies young John Henry
As cold as can be
No headstone to mark him
No lover to grieve him
Save for the roses
Of Midsomer County
But young men don't stray
This maiden will lead you away

In 1859, the engineer Brunel
Would build the greatest ship afloat, and ruled the ocean's swell
19,000 tons of steel, they used to shape the mighty keel
It's forged inside the smelter where they made the gates of Hell
And the name upon the contract, Isambard Brunel
As day-by-day the monster grew, the engineer Brunel
Would watch the devil's handiwork, and woe betide a man who shirks
Or slows the pace to build the keel, 19,000 tons of steel
Anyone with eyes to see is but a bride of Hell
And the name upon the draftsman's chart, Isambard Brunel
A riveter was on the hull with his apprentice Lad
He'd served his time with the older man, some say it was his dad
200 men upon the shift, but when the day is done
The count is hundred 98, before the setting sun
They searched the yard all through the night until the morning bell
No more delays are countenanced by Isambard Brunel
And so they work a double shift, to make the time in full
No mention of the missing men... they seal the double hull
The ship was launched upon the tide and all the townsfolk cheered
A brass band played but not a word of omens they had feared
But before the afternoon was out, the celebration wrecked
A dignitary clutched his heart... and collapsed upon the deck
No doctors could revive him as the telegraphs would tell
And the name upon the coffin... Isambard Brunel
And now upon the open sea, the mighty ship did plough
But many feared the darkness, in the shadow of its prow
An explosion on the lower deck, would take the souls of five
With a growing superstition 'mong the sailors still alive
The captain and his boy are lost while rowing to the shore
The crew will threaten mutiny and say they'll work no more
They began to say the ship was cursed, they hadn't even seen the worst
They'd signed on able-bodied men, but they wouldn't sail to Hell
When the name upon the manifest is Isambard Brunel
For 14 years that ship will sail, misfortune taken hard
The owners barely find a crew to reach the breakers' yard
And as they take the plates apart, unseal the double hull
The breakers call the foreman o'er, they'd found a human skull
And then they find the younger man, perforced to understand
That in the hour of their torment, he'd reached his father's hand
In 1859, the engineer Brunel
Would build the greatest ship afloat, and rule the mighty swell
The final shift was over, and the breakers' hammers fell
And the name upon the manifest, the contract signed in Hell
Was the same as on the draftsman's chart... one Isambard Brunel

These four walls to keep you
One floor to sleep upon and only
These four walls to keep you
These four walls contain you
Supposed to save you from yourself and
These four walls in Holcomb
To keep you from the sun
And now we're faced with two wrongs
Now we're faced with two wrongs
I don't know, oh, I don't know
And now we're faced with two wrongs
Now we're faced with two wrongs
I don't know, oh, I don't know
We could be born to anything
And now what, now what?
What you have done is terrible
And now you, now you
Now you carry it with you
You carry it with you
You carry it with you
These four walls will keep you
Until you face the rope
You've only these four walls before they,
In cold blood, hang you up
And now we're faced with two wrongs
Now we're faced with two wrongs
I don't know, oh, I don't know
And now we're faced with two wrongs
Now we're faced with two wrongs
I don't know, oh, I don't know
We could be born to anything
And now what, and now what?
What you have done is terrible
And now you, and now you
Now you carry it with you
You carry it with you
You carry it with you
(Now you carry it with you
Carry it with you
Carry it with you)
There's no view from here,
No view from here, no view from here
All you see's the sky
Clouds passing by, clouds passing by
(We could be born)
We could be born to anything
And now what, and now what?
What you have done is terrible
And now what, and now what?
Now you carry it with you
You carry it with you
You carry it with you
Now you carry it with you
You carry it with you
You carry it with you
Now you carry it with you

Gone are the lines that were drawn
Mistakes we made when we were young
But no southern trains could keep me from where I still belong
Chances that I took in vain
Gone with all of the charades
That all of this time that I didn't know that you felt the same
And all of the fears I'd leave them behind for you
I can't deny when I'm back in the woods that I'll be fine
'Cause I'm coming home
'Cause I'm coming home
Made my way through sand and stonе
Troubles I've carried alonе
Places that seemed greener, but never were sweeter than home
All of the fears I'd leave them behind for you, yes, I would
I can't deny when I'm back in the woods that I'll be fine
'Cause I'm coming home
I'm coming home
Now should I left you, babe
Now could forget you, babe
I'm coming home
I'm coming home
I'm coming home

One, two, three
One, two, three
I walked to New York and back from L.A
I lived on a mountain and once by the bay
I bought an apartment and slept in the hay
But there's no place that's softer than (your arms)
Living today is just getting so bad
There's a look on your face
And it says you've been had
You can take all my money
But don't make me mad
'Cause there's nobody meaner than (me)
I prayed to Buddha, to Allah, and Jim
I turned to Jesus and stayed there with him
I fell in deep, but I learned how to swim
Now there's no one who's cleaner than me or than him

Her mama picked him up in south Minnesota
He promised her the world but they never got that far
For he was last seen in that '59 DeSota
When Sally was born in the black hills of Dakota.
She was washed in the blood of the dying Sioux nation
Raised with a proud but a wandering heart
And she knew that her roots were in the old reservation
But she had stars in her eyes and greater expectations.
No rings on her fingers, no bells on her toes
With bugs on her headlights and runs in her hose
Through the valley of the shadow of Roosevelt's nose
Adios South Dakota, adios Sally Rose.
They've got a national monument carved out of stone
On the side of a mountain where her forefathers roamed
Playin' cowboys and Indians right under the nose
Of Theodore Roosevelt and the sweet Sally Rose.
So she left Rapid City in the blue moonlight hour
With her eye on the highway and her foot on the floor
And turnin' the dial, she was pulled by the power
Of the word coming out of that broadcasting tower.
No rings on her fingers, no bells on her toes
With bugs on her headlights and runs in her hose
Through the valley of the shadow of Roosevelt's nose
Adios South Dakota, adios Sally Rose...

Paul studied a lot
At least he pretended to
He had too much on his mind
It was too small
To see the beauty of it all
Lea loved him a lot
At least she pretended to
He was always on her mind
She said, Paul,
There's a fire in the hall
And when it finally burned the questions
For the answers he had found
He realized it ought to be the other way around
There's a fire burning in the hall
It looks great, I don't care, let it burn
I don't care, I don't care
I don't care at all
They got married right on the spot
At least I presume they did
I have too much on my mind
To tell you the fall
Of Lea and Paul
Out in the hall
For the moment that this song has stopped
They'll probably be dead
So it's better maybe wiser
To leave the rest unsaid
There's a fire burning in the hall
It looks great, I don't care, let it burn
I don't care, I don't care
I don't care at all
There's a fire burning in the hall
It looks great, I don't care, let it burn
I don't care, I don't care
I don't care at all
I don't care at all
I don't care at all
I don't care at all
I don't care at all
I don't care at all

And a hundred and eighty were challenged by Travis to die
By the line that he drew with his sword when the battle was nigh
Any man that would fight to the death crossed over
But him that would live, better fly
And over the line went a hundred and seventy nine
Hey Santa Anna, we're killing your soldiers below!
That men, wherever they go will remember the Alamo
Bowie lay dying, but his powder was ready and dry
Flat on his back, Bowie killed him a few in reply
And young David Crockett was singing and laughing
With gallantry fears in his eyes
For God and for freedom, a man more than willing to die
Hey Santa Anna, we're killing your soldiers below!
That men, wherever they go will remember the Alamo
And then they sent a young scout from the battlements, bloody and loud
With the words of farewell from a garrison valiant and proud
"Grieve not little darling, my dying, if Texas is sovereign and free
We'll never surrender and ever with liberty be"
Hey Santa Anna, we're killing your soldiers below!
That men, wherever they go will remember the Alamo

A hundred and 80 were challenged by Travis to die
By a line that he drew with his sword as the battle drew nigh
A man that crossed over the line was for glory
And he that was left better fly
And over the line crossed a hundred and 79
Hey up Santa Anna, they're killing your soldiers below
So the rest of Texas will know
And remember the Alamo
Jim Bowie lay dying, his blood and his powder were dry
But his knife at the ready to take him a few in reply
Young Davy Crochet lay laughing and dying
The blood and the sweat in his eyes
For Texas and freedom, no man was more willing to die
Hey up Santa Anna, they're killing your soldiers below
So the rest of Texas will know
And remember the Alamo
A courier came to a battle once bloody and loud
And found only skin and bones where he once left a crowd
Fear not little darling of dying
If the world be sovereign and free
For we'll fight to the last for as long as liberty be
Hey up Santa Anna, they're killing your soldiers below
So the rest of Texas will know
And remember the Alamo, and remember the Alamo

This is all a game and I know it
Every word's a lie
I tried to believe you
But I'd just be wasting time
You're all tired, torn and broken here
And you're standing in a line again
Just turn the dial, take me where I want to be
And tell that the doctor that I said goodbye
Tell that the doctor that I said goodbye
One more chance to watch the midnight sky
On my own and now you'll never
Turn my heart to stone
I could go on, I could go on
Turn my heart too slow
I could go on, I could go on
It's such a shame to be living
When clouds cover your sky
I tried to see clearly
Just make me feel alive
You're out crying in the parking lot
While I'm holding hands with God
Just turn the dial, take me where I want to be
And tell that the doctor that I said goodbye
Tell that the doctor that I said goodbye
One more chance to watch the midnight sky
I'm on my own and now you'll never
Turn my heart to stone
I could go on, I could go on
Turn my heart too slow
I could go on, I could go on
It's like pulling a needle with no thread
In a glass house with no stones to throw through it
It's like setting fire to the town
As your boat pulls off the shore
On my own and now you'll never
Turn my heart to stone
I could go on, I could go on
Turn my heart too slow
I could go on, I could go on
Never

I've drawn on poetry over the years
So that I might provide another voice in lyric writing
And another perspective than my own
And one of the poets I've been drawn to has been, the Irish poet; W.B. Yeats
In the ballot of the fox hunter, Yates imagines and focuses in
On the special connection humans can have with another species
In this case, a king's hounds, with whom he would have gone hunting in his day
One blind hound lies apart
On the sun-smitten grass
He holds commune with his heart
The moments pass and pass
The blind hound with a mournful tail
He lifts his wintry head
The servants bear the body in
The hounds wail for the dead
A huntsman Rody, blow the horn
Make the hills reply
The huntsman loosens on the morn
A gay and mournful cry
As someone who's had pets throughout my life
And aspire to be a veterinarian
I can certainly attest to this special connection
One can have with other creatures
And how intuitive they can be

I used to like the morning
I'd survived another night
I'd walk to breakfast through the garden
See the flowers stretching in the sunlight
Now I wake up in the morning
And all the kindness is drained out of me
I spend hours just wincing
And trying to regain some sense of peace
If only I could sustain my anger
Feel it grow stronger and stronger
It sharpens to a point and sheds my skin
Shakes off the weight of my sins
And takes me to heaven
I stay up late every night
Out of some general protest
But with no one to tell you to come to bed
It's not really a contest
And maybe you think
I'll learn from my mistake
But not this time
It's just gonna break me
If only I could sustain my anger
Feel it grow stronger and stronger
It sharpens to a point and sheds my skin
Shakes off the weight of my sins
And takes me to heaven
And if I've lost you for good
Could there have been any other way?
Was the water filling up for years
Or did I wreck it all in a day?
I'm going to bed now
I've sunk into my sorrows
And it'll take three hundred million dollars
To get me up tomorrow
I won't go down with this shit
I will put my hands up and surrender
There will be no more flags above my door
I have lost and always will be
It was an expensive mistake
It was an expensive mistake
My horse broke his back to get me here
I have his blood on my hands for no reason
But what was I supposed to do?
How was I supposed to know how to use a tube amp?
How was I supposed to know how to drive a van?
How was I supposed to know how to ride a bike without hurting myself?
How was I supposed to know how to make dinner for myself?
How was I supposed to know how to hold a job?
How was I supposed to remember to grab my backpack
After I set it down to play basketball?
How was I supposed to know how to not get drunk
Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and why not Sunday?
How was I supposed to know how steer this ship?
How the hell was I supposed to steer this ship?
It was an expensive mistake
You can't say you're sorry and it's over
I was given a body that is falling apart
My house is falling apart
I was given a mind that can't control itself
I was given a ship that can't steer itself (and what about a vacation?)
What about a vacation to feel good?
My horse broke his back and left me here
How was I supposed to know?
And God won't forgive me
And you won't forgive me
Not unless I open up my heart
And how am I supposed to do that
When I go to this same room every night?
Sleep in the same bed every night
Same fucking bed
With the red comforter, with the white stripes
And the yellow ceiling light makes me feel like I'm dying
This sea is too familiar
How many nights have I drowned here?
How many times have I drowned?
I give up
I give up
Let us take you back to where we came in
We were united, an undivided nation
We got divided, it was something inside us
It was not us
We were so naive, we were just like animals
Told what to believe by the beasts who took control
We wanted control too, but that was normal
'Cause our life was one of survival
The decisions we've made, if you can call it deciding
With your life on the line
It'd be social suicide to change your mind
So we got mad and we split the scene
Now we download all of our shit for free
It's the new economy
We have nothing to offer and we sleep on trash
I give up
I give up
Let us take you back to where you came in
A man clinging to the cliff of revelation
So scared of what he would find, he started crying:
"It was not me"
Stopped at the borderline, they stripped his disguise
So he read a book that won a Pulitzer prize
It was about death, it didn't help
He saw himself in it
He was disturbed at the conclusions that it led to
But he couldn't say what because the author was dead too
And so though he made fun of us
He has now become one of us
I give up
I give up
I give up
I give up
I give up
I give up
I give up
And you wake up trembling
From a dream where I swam into the river
I reach out and hold you in my arms
I love you, I love you, I love you

Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret
Trained to live off nature's land
Trained in combat, hand-to-hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage take from the Green Berets
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret
Back at home, a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
Leaving her his last request
Put silver wings on my son's chest
Make him one of America's best
He'll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret

Well I drink Tennessee whiskey, I smoke Alaskan weed
I'm The Last Knife Fighter, I'm a living dying breed
I shot a man in Reno, 'cause Johnny said I could
I hopped a train to LA, got in a fight in Hollywood
I said "Hey, I'll knife you down someday."
Well I ain't too high on feelings, I don't comfort no one
Yeah, the bottle is my god now and the glass his only son
Well I walk here in the morning, and I'm banned here late at night
But I'm stuck here either way, son, until my Last Knife Fight
I said ooh, I keep my land (unknown)
And I say hey, I'll knife you down someday
So, I keep my bowie on me and my boots by the door
I keep looking over my shoulder, I don't sleep good anymore
If you see mе coming, you best step aside
Toughеr men didn't and tougher men just died
I said ooh, I keep my (unknown)
And I say hey, I'll knife you down someday

Across the alley from the Alamo
Lived a pinto pony and a Navajo
Who sang a sort of Indian "Hi-de-ho"
To the people passin' by
The pinto spent his time a-swishin' flies
And the Navajo watched the lazy skies
And very rarely did they ever rest their eyes
On the people passin' by
One day, they went a walkin' along the railroad track
They were swishin' not a-lookin' Toot! Toot!, they never came back
Oh, across the alley from the Alamo
When the summer sun decides to settle low
A fly sings an Indian "Hi-de-ho"
To the people passing by
Across the alley from the Alamo
Lived a pinto pony and a Navajo
Who used to bake frijoles in cornmeal dough
For the people passing by
They thought that they would make some easy bucks
By washin' their frijoles in Duz and Lux,
A pair of very conscientious clucks
To the people passin' by
Then they took this cheap vacation, their shoes were polished bright
No, they never heard the whistle, Toot! Toot! they're clear out of sight
Oh, across the alley from the Alamo
When the starlight beams its tender glow
The beams go to sleep and then there ain't no dough
For the people passin' by
One day, they went a walkin' along the railroad track
They were swishin' not a-lookin' Toot! Toot!, they never came back
Oh, across the alley from the Alamo
When the summer sun decides to settle low
A fly sings an Indian "Hi-de-ho"
To the people passin' by
Across the alley from the Alamo

I just looked to my life
And all I saw was that you're not coming back
Oh, can't you see
When the ballad comes for you
It comes like me?
But I won't be afraid
I can't seem to find you in this midnight parade
I know it's all true
When the ballad comes for me
It comes like you
Up close, I fell in love with you
(I met you at an early show)
You fall in, I'll fall along with you
(We travelled 'round the world together)
I just looked out to the point
Where the words, they are hitting me in a full-on assault
Oh, can't you see
When the ballad comes for you
It comes like me?
Well, I know, can't change the times
I know I'm already breaking when I look into your eyes
Oh, can't you see
When the ballad comes for you (ballad comes)
It comes like me?
Up close (up close), I fell in love with you
(I met you at an early show)
You fall (you fall, you fall), I'll fall along with you
(We travelled 'round the world together)

Insane blues at the green man inn
Cut the lights and pray that you're dead
Opium dreams through the seven dials
And feel the pillow over your head
Rachel hides from Ned the crow
Keen eye on the peelers
Experiment from 53
And no scratch for the dealers
Sweet Rosa whore
She wants some more
Sweet Rosa whore
I say hell is love
You say I must suffer
She's a motherfucker
Resurrect me
I say hell is love
You say I must suffer
She's a motherfucker
Resurrect me
Sleep well in your killing bed
Favor for a favor
Don't separate the
Pain from the knife
All the doctors sing
You got to suffer for the cure
As the world fades away
You wonder where you were
She wants some more
Sweet Rosa whore
Sweet Rosa whore
I say hell is love
You say I must suffer
She's a motherfucker
Resurrect me
I say hell is love
You say I must suffer
She's a motherfucker
Resurrect me

The moon lights up over the battlefield now,
With a blistering heat somehow
Lifeless and broken heart to death,
They should have just stayed home instead
Stayed alive.
We'll let her rice
We gliss on some others eyes
She wonders where when and why
She could have tucket him in his bed,
With a kiss on the cheek and his head
He'd still lay
Well the moon and the stars
Can't cast shaddows on what is wrong
Well my boys are dead, living is lead.
Nothing more
The sun wakes up, bring sparkles in the morning light,
Rubbs a belly bouncer head to cry,
She lost him before they were wed
But hes there in her heart and her head, hes still alive
Well the moon and the stars can't cast shaddows of what is wrong
Well my boys are dead, living is lead.
Nothing more
Oh the moon lights up over the battlefield now.

She paints her fingers with a close precision
He starts to notice empty bottles of gin
And takes a moment to assess the sin, she's paid for
A lonely speaker in a conversation
Her words are swimming through his ears again
There's nothing wrong with just a taste of what you paid for
Say what you mean, tell me I'm right
And let the sun rain down on me
Give me a sign, I wanna believe
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, Mona Lisa
You're guaranteed to run this town
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, Mona Lisa
I'd pay to see you frown
He senses something, call it desperation
Another dollar, another day
And if she had the proper words to say, she would tell him
But she'd have nothing left to sell him
Say what you mean, tell me I'm right
And let the sun rain down on me
Give me a sign, I wanna believe
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, Mona Lisa
You're guaranteed to run this town
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, Mona Lisa
I'd pay to see you frown
Mona Lisa, wear me out
I'm pleased to please ya
Mona Lisa, wear me out
Say what you mean, tell me I'm right

Give me a sign, I wanna believe
