Gratitude - song lyrics

Light in the morning
Coffee in my cup
The sound of your footsteps waking me up
The face of an old friend
You haven't seen in years
Stories turn to songs, laughter to tears

These things aren't a given
They're a gift to behold
Like the first leaves of autumn
Our breath in the cold

Gratitude
Sometimes all you need is
Gratitude
Try and hold on to your hands in the garden
The smile of a child
Swimming in the river
Walking the last sweet mile
The first crack of thunder, the heavenly rain
All that gets taken
And all that remains

These things aren't a given
They're a gift to behold
Like the first sip of whiskey
And dancing real slow

Gratitude
Sometimes all you need is
Gratitude
Just try and hold on to
The city lights
Sunrise, long drives
Late nights, shady groves
The love we know
Isn't that what matters most?

These things aren't a given
They're the heartbeats of time
A songbird in the wind
The wind in the pines

Gratitude
Gratitude
Try and hold on to
Gratitude
Sometimes all you need is
Gratitude
So, try and hold on to it

All my words fall short I got nothing new How could I express All my gratitude? I could sing these songs As I often do But every song must end And You never do So I throw up my hands And praise You again and again 'Cause all that I have is a hallelujah Hallelujah And I know it's not much But I've nothing else fit for a King Except for a heart singing hallelujah Hallelujah I've got one response I've got just one move With my arm stretched wide I will worship You So I throw up my hands And praise You again and again 'Cause all that I have is a hallelujah Hallelujah And I know it's not much But I've nothing else fit for a King Except for a heart singing hallelujah Hallelujah So come on, my soul Oh, don't you get shy on me Lift up your song 'Cause you've got a lion inside of those lungs Get up and praise the Lord Oh come on, my soul Oh, don't you get shy on me Lift up your song 'Cause you've got a lion inside of those lungs Get up and praise the Lord Come on, my soul Oh, don't you get shy on me Lift up your song 'Cause you've got a lion inside of those lungs Get up and praise the Lord, hey Praise the Lord Praise the Lord Praise the Lord So I throw up my hands Praise You again and again 'Cause all that I have is a hallelujah Hallelujah And I know it's not much But I've nothing else fit for a King Except for a heart singing hallelujah Hallelujah

It's a form of gratitude that when my thoughts turn to you A pen can feel so heavy With ink enough for a violent flood breaching the levee I still couldn't lay a glove on what I feel for you As the rain pours down And it's so like you To show up here right when I least expect you to I started driving, not knowing where I was gonna go And you appear, hair blowing outside the window Saying, "I know a place we could go" Little light, please shine forever I call you out so that I'll always remember Take me with you wherever it is you wanna go In my weaker moments, I still find you there Offering a way out, a way out of here Out of sight, out of mind We could be outside of time If you just give me the sign I won't leave you behind We pull up at the old waterfalls Where we watched the water form a wall Outside the caves of Bearsden Your eyes would light up whenever you spoke of them I went out looking to try and find A memory of you that stays kind I know a place we could go Little light, please shine forever I call you out, so that I'll always remember Take me with you wherever it is you wanna go In my weaker moments, I still find you there Offering a way out, a way out of here Out of sight, out of mind We could be outside of time, if you'd just give me the sign I won't leave you behind In my weaker moments, I still find you there Offering a way out, a way out of here Out of sight, out of mind We could be outside of time If you'd just give me the sign I won't leave you behind It's a form of gratitude that when my thoughts turn to you A pen can feel so heavy With ink enough for a violent flood breaching the levee

I feel like an old soul I feel like a sinking ship Can't get no sleep, can't just let it be Like I'm walking on tightrope I feel like a slow dance I feel like a last chance Played hard to get, one too many regrets Like walking a tightrope I want to go wherever you go Through the night where the storms roll Till the rising sun meets the morning Want to go wherever you go, Wherever you go I feel the weight of my sorrow Without the promise of tomorrow So much to gain and so much to lose Like walking on a tightrope I hear the sirens in the west wind I feel the devils at work again Saying it's too late, a lifetime of mistakes Like walking on a tightrope I want to go wherever you go Through the night no matter where the storms roll Till the rising sun meets the morning Want to go wherever you go I want to go wherever you go Through the night no matter where the storms roll Till the rising sun meets the morning Want to go wherever you go Wherever you go Wherever you go Wherever you go Wherever you Go

Fireside conversations Bourbon on our breath Laughter in the kitchen The children make a mess From the front porch to the backyard Tragedy in between It's a New Year It's a new song It's the same mystery We talk about your brother Stories left unheard You share blood but you don't share words Same room on Holidays No apologies It's a New Year It's a new song It's the same mystery Cool of October We feel the sorrow of St. Jude Void between strangers as the clock quickly moves It's a long way from paradise A long way from Eden's Tree It's a New Year It's a new song It's the same mystery Six months turns to six years Time is like a ghost Lost in my mind again Yet suddenly I'm alone That loneliness comes and goes It speaks harsh words to me It's a New Year It's a new song It's the same mystery Walking through my neighborhood I have nothing left to say Life and death they never rest And I still got bills to pay On earth as is in heaven Don't make sense to me It's a New Year It's a new song It's the same mystery It's a New Year It's a new song It's the same mystery
